Imam Ali (A.S)'s shrine damaged in fighting

The golden domed Shrine of Imam Ali (A.S) in Najaf, Iraq was hit by four
gunshots during fighting between US forces and Mehdi army of Muqtada Sadr on
Friday.
Four holes, each about 12 inches long and 8 inches wide, were visible on the
golden dome of Imam Ali (A.S)'s shrine, according to the Associated Press.
The shrine of Imam Ali (A.S) is the third most sacred site for Shia muslims,
behind Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia.
The Shrine of Imam Ali (A.S) is also the burial site of Prophet Adam (A.S) and
Prophet Noah (A.S).
The fighting broke out after dawn when US forces charged into the holy city of
Najaf and attacked the positions held by Mehdi army.
Atleast 15 members of Mehdi army are believed to have been killed in the latest
fighting.
Meanwhile, in the holy city of Kerbala, 30 miles north of Najaf, at least four
Iraqis were killed and 13 wounded in overnight fighting.
